Dr. Michael Twardowski is a Research Professor in Ocean Optics at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, Ft. Pierce, FL and Director of the Center for Marine Applied Technology and Engineering (C-MATE). Mike has led development of breakthrough sensing technologies to study the ocean for over 20 years. His research has included work on remote sensing of ocean color, forward and inverse problems in radiative transfer, monitoring the ocean from autonomous vehicles and platforms, imaging and visibility in water, harmful algal blooms, bioluminescence, biological camouflage, and oil detection. Mike is on the science team for the NASA PACE mission, where he is focusing on in-water inversion and BRDF algorithms for ocean color, including the effects of polarization. Mike received his PhD in Oceanography from the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island in 1998. Email: mtwardowski@fau.edu
